My favorite open-source all-purpose software, LibreOffice, keeps getting better. They released version 7.4 in August 2022, and it's a pleasure to read the release notes to see all the things they've improved:
- Writer now supports rich text and checkbox content controls and dropdown, picture and date content controls from Word natively - these provide better support for people working with Microsoft Word docx files
- Writer now has some additional, optional settings for greater control over hyphenation
- In Writer, Show Changes shows how numbering will be changed if you add or delete items in a list
- Calc can now work with massive spreadsheets containing over 16,000 columns
- Calc now supports sparklines
- There's a new Duplicate Sheet feature in Calc that saves a few steps when making a copy of a sheet
- Calc's sort options dialog is streamlined, so you don't have to switch to a different pane to set options like whether the top row has column labels
I am such a fan of open-source software and the way communities create powerful tools and make them available to anyone, anywhere, for free.
It's inspiring to see so many people continue to work on making this terrific tool even better.
