Over on Ask MetaFilter, I recently found myself recommending iMazing yet again, and I realized it might be helpful to mention it over here as well.
iMazing is software that makes it easier to manage all the stuff on an iPhone.
It makes it easy to do things that are harder - or impossible - otherwise, like
- copy all kinds of documents onto the phone, as well as copying from the phone to your Mac
- manage and back up apps
- copy and export Messages
- copy and export Notes
- select photos and movies and back them up or delete them
The thing that's so amazing about iMazing is the generous feature set of their free trial version. It lets you do an astounding number of useful things without having to buy it just to test it out.
It's felt good to be able to recommend it to folks who had a problem and needed a tool to help, and to know that - if iMazing couldn't do what they needed - they wouldn't be out a lot of money just for trying.
I like iMazing enough that I've happily bought a license.
I especially like how much easier it is to manage photos. With just a few clicks, I can easily locate and back up the largest movies on my phone and then delete those to free up space, or locate photos that are more than a few years old that are good candidates for deletion.
Here are the AskMe threads where I've recommended iMazing:
Recovering deleted audio file in iPhone Notes app?
Export list of installed iOS apps?
Easy way to export iOS notes content to text?
Sorting photos by size on Macbook or iPhone
If you have an iPhone or iPad, I highly recommend downloading the software and giving it a try. You might be amazed at how helpful it can be.
